PARENTING 2 INSPIRE

Welcome to a website that offers a common sense approach to parenting. Managed by Beth Medway and Jean David, sisters with NNEB training and a wealth of experience not only raising their own families but also a lifetime working in residential nursery care, pre-school centres, nursery education,  foundation classes, primary support roles, after-school care centres and more recently work as learning mentor and Higher Learning Teaching Assistant. The aim of this site is to provide help in pre-school preparation, in behaviour management, building of pre-school skills in literacy, numeracy, creativity and emotional intelligence. A tall order? Possibly, but here goes. The first steps are always the hardest. Our fundamental premise is that all children are different and we do not set out to offer the right answer. We offer a range of ideas that may work with your child. Why not send us an e-mail if you have any worries or doubts on parenting issues at enquiries@parenting2inspire.co.uk. We will do our best to give commonsense advice.

"Let's see how we can help you to prepare your child for the first nursery experience."

CHOOSING THE RIGHT NURSERY FOR YOU

"A basic ground rule is to visit the place and why not take a friend or family member with you?"

Things to look for . . .

Friendly and welcoming staff

Happy and engaged children

Safe, clean environment

Evidence of creative play - e.g. paint, sand, water

                    A stimulating outside play area

Open access to parents or designated carers permitting drop in visits without appointments

Things to ask . . .

Are the staff qualified and CRB checked?

Is there a policy on safe collection of children?

Are staff allowed to use mobile phones whilst on duty?

You may ask to see the paper policies but some places are better on paper than with children.

The feel of a nursery is important - a warm, welcoming and caring place where parental wishes are paramount.

IMPORTANT ISSUES TO RAISE

How responsive is the nursery to the wishes of the parent on any special needs of your child? A favourite toy, bottle feeding, toilet training, day-time sleep, discipline and treats. If it's a worry to you, then ask the questions. Some nurseries have rules that may conflict with your wishes and cause your child to get upset.
